High-redshift star formation in the Hubble Deep Field revealed by a submillimetre-wavelength survey
Article Abstract:
Attempts have been made to determine the global star-formation history of the Universe, based on information from deep redshift surveys and the Lyman-limit galaxies statistics. It has been made possible to undertake unbiased surveys and quantify star-formation activity in the young Universe, with the recent commissioning of the sensitive submillimetre array camera (SCUBA). The results of an ultra-deep submillimetre survey focusing on the Hubble Deep field are reported, including identification of a population of high-redshift dusty starbust galaxies.

Evidence for a near-earth asteroid belt
Article Abstract:
Spacewatch technology have determined the presence of about 40 Earth-approaching asteroids with dimensions less than 1.3 AU including 13 with measurements less than 50 m. Objects whose orbits dominate the Spacewatch observations also dominate the simulated distribution. Results indicated that asteroids with low eccentricity levels, a diversity of inclinations and abnormal spectral properties form an asteroid belt located near the Earth.

Hubble repairs to top active year in space
Article Abstract:
NASA hopes that by the beginning of 1993 most of the problems with the Hubble Telescope will have been repaired. A crew of seven was scheduled to make a flight in Dec 1992 to effect optical repairs allowing the telescope to gather data concerning black holes in distant galaxies. France will replace its SPOT-2 satellite with its SPOT-3 remote-sensing spacecraft, and Russia has plans for three manned flights to the Mir space station.
