I-kappa-B kinase all zipped up
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to fractionate extracts from HeLa cells stimulated with tumour-necrosis factor. This research involved examining the various fractions for their ability to specifically phosphorylate a fragment of the I-kappa-B-alpha molecule containing serines 32 and 36. The researchers purified and cloned the I-kappa-B-alpha-specific kinase of the complex of relative molecular mass 900,000. This kinase has been renamed IKK-alpha. It was found that IKK-alpha activity is sensitive to dephosphorylation by the protein phosphatase PP2A.
