Illusory motion from shadows
Article Abstract:
Shadows affect the discernible three-dimensional motion of objects. The movement of an objects' shadow gives an impression of motion in the depth of the object even when the object is steady. An experiment with a checkerboard, with a square in its center, gives an impression of motion in the depth of the square when the shadow moves. The apparent motion is greater when the shadow has a penumbra, or when the source of light is from the top.

Is subliminal learning really passive?
Article Abstract:
Subliminal learning is thought to occur through passive exposure to a stimulus. In challenging this theory, researchers discovered that perceptual learning improved when paired with relevant tasks that required conscious attention, and did not improve when paired with distractions.

Perceiving visual expansion without optic flow
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the use of synthesized stochastic texture stimuli to investigate the use of scale-change information by the human eye. The estimation of expansion rates by observers is discussed.
