An RNA-dependent ATPase associated with U2/U6 snRNAs in pre-mRNA splicing
Article Abstract:
The synthetic lethal with U2 (Slt) factor 22 (Slt22) is necessary for the interactions of U2/U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) that are required for RNA splicing. The Slt22 associated ATPase activity increases in the presence of annealed U2/U6 snRNAs. U2 snRNA and mutant slt22-1 decrease the activity of the ATPase. The slt22-1 mutant suppresses RNA splicing and a complex in which U5 snRNA is absent is formed. The Slt22 protein encoded by the SLT22 gene contains 2,163 residues and probably functions as a proof reader in the U2/U6 snRNA interactions.

Inhibition of msl-2 splicing by Sex-lethal reveals interaction between U2AF35 and the 3' splice site AG
Article Abstract:
It has been established that even the earliest events in 3'-splice-site recognition are influenced by the proximity between the poly(Y) tract and the AG dinucleotide. U2AF35, the small subunit of U2AF, contacts the AG dinucleotide only when situated in proximity to the poly(Y) tract. It is clear that the underlying molecular interactions also function in RNAs with strongly poly(Y) tracts highly enriched in U bases. This interactions can play a vital role in splicing regulation.
