Insect vibrational defence signals
Article Abstract:
Substrate-borne vibrational signals are produced by groups of nymphs of the treehopper, Umbonia crassicornis, evoking maternal antipredator behavior in the presence of predators such as wasps. The signals, travelling in a wave through the cluster, are a series of pulses lasting 30-40 ms. Only the females respond to the vibrational group signals by rushing to the place of danger. Correlation among the signalling nymphs is essential to elicit the maternal response. Females successfully defend nymphal clusters in 90% of cases.

Decrystallization of adult birdsong by perturbation of auditory feedback
Article Abstract:
Disturbing auditory feedback during singing in adult zebra finches leads to a slow deterioration in their song. This indicates that some auditory feedback is significant for song maintenance throughout life. It appears that auditory feedback does not have a lot of instantaneous control over the production of song, but instead has a cumulative impact on song maintenance. Recrystallized songs seem to remain stable indefinitely.
