Japan's seismic tragedy at Kobe
Article Abstract:
The consequences of the Japanese earthquake at Kobe in terms of the high death toll and disruption of national economy has led other countries to assess their seismologic practices. Civil engineering practices and building codes should be strengthened to ensure protection against quakes in seismically hazardous locations. Establishing effective seismic prediction services to deal with long-term seismic risks is essential.
