Lasers blow a bigger bubble
Article Abstract:
Researchers from the University of Gottingen fired an infrared laser pulse in some water. A bubble of water expanded to a diameter of three millimeters as it filled with dissolved gas and water vapour. The pressure outside the bubble was greater than inside and the bubble imploded. When it imploded, the researchers observed 3x10 to the power of seven photons. The gas in the bubble heats up to several thousand kelvin when it is compressed and this causes light to be emitted. This phenomenon has been observed by Russian scientists but accurate measurements could not be made.

Does the proof stack up?
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the peer review system and how it has failed to deliver the results in a timely fashion. Case in point is a story about a mathematician's theory about stacking spheres. The peer review took four years to finish their job. The theory pyramid power may have to wait for verification by the computers.
