Life after killer waves: The tsunami struck already troubled environments
Article Abstract:
The wildlife conservation society sent staff members to Aceh province on the northern tip of Indonesia's Sumatra Island, the area affected by tsunami. Many conservationists hope the rebuilding phase would bring changes and improvements, including laws restricting near-shore development and two-stroke boat engines.

A return to paradise in the South China Sea
Article Abstract:
Fishermen who ply the South China Sea seek refuge in the Perhentian islands during storms. Fishing used to be the prime source of income here but fewer residents fish recently because there's more money to be made from tourists attracted by the islands beauty.

Ply Ch'hroeut, a Cambodian Phnong tribesman, tap trees for resin as means for his survival. Research has shown that tapping trees for resin helps in promoting forest conservation.
