Limestone quarries as refuges for European Xerophilous butterflies
Article Abstract:
Butterfly assemblages of 21 limestone quarries in Monravia, Czech Republic are compared with respect to species abundance in the querries and their regional distribution. Research reveals that xerophilous and sedentary butterflies take refuge in quarries. Data indicate that both the earliest-succession barens and the latter-succuession scrub xerophilous species inhabit the quarries.
