Liquid assets; if dams are built on the great Whale River, they will wipe out the Cree's last lands, a habitat of abundant wildlife
Article Abstract:
Hydro-Quebec's James Bay II hydropower project may threaten the environment along the Great Whale River. Cree Indians, who are led by Matthew Mukash, claim that the electric project is unnecessary. The Cree, many of whom live along the Great Whale, want to preserve their land and their heritage. The full impact of a dam may include the disruption of migratory routes and the destruction of entire ecosystems.

The Right Whale to save
Article Abstract:
North Atlantic right whales are so rare, with only about 350 of them remaining, that biologists who track them call them by name. Management authorities under the terms of law have to design separate recovery plans, provide resources and make efforts to protect critical habitat to ensure the viability of these species.
