Lithium given and taken away
Article Abstract:
The detection of larger than expected quantities of lithium near the V404 Cygni binary system by E.L. Martin and colleagues may indicate a cosmic source for this element, the fifth most common in the universe. Martin and coworkers suggest that black holes may produce lithium since V404 Cygni is thought to contain a black hole. However, the presence of a black hole in V404 Cygni has not been definitely established. The complex astrophysical processes that determine the abundance of lithium remain unclear.

Mysteries of the Milky Way
Article Abstract:
The oldest known starts are in the outer reaches of the Milky Way galaxy, but their birthplace and the timing of their joining of the Milky Way, remain the subject of controversy. Cold dark matter (CDM) models are poor at describing individual galaxies, and Alex Stephens's study into the relative abundances of chemical elements in starts close to the sun has improved available evidence, but created further problems for CDM models.

Worlds in collision
Article Abstract:
P. Marcum, P. Appleton and J. Higdon have published research on the Cartwheel galaxy, which consists of two galaxies which collided and retained a disk shape. The two galaxies had to collide head on to retain symmetry and merge into a single disk. The new galaxy does not have many elements beyond helium so it is relatively young and provides the opportunity to test theories of stellar formation.
