Low interannual variability in recent oceanic uptake of atmospheric carbon dioxide
Article Abstract:
The interannual variability in fossil-fuel CO2 uptake from the atmosphere by the terrestrial biosphere and ocean is a poorly quantified process. Current estimates are based on atmospheric measurements. The interannual variability in global net air-sea CO2 flux has been estimated using alterations in wind speeds and partial pressure of CO2 (pco2) in the overlying air of surface sea water. Results indicated that the main cause of variations in the rate of atmospheric CO2 accumulation is variable sequestration of carbon by the terrestrial biosphere.

Spatial coupling of nitrogen inputs and losses in the ocean
Article Abstract:
The temporal and spatial variability of nitrogen makes it difficult to determine the global distribution of marine nitrogen fixation from direct shipboard measurements due to which the understanding of the factors that influence nitrogen fixation are limited. An ocean circulation model is used to determine the nitrogen fixation in the world's ocean and the results indicate that the nitrogen fixation rates are highest in the Pacific Ocean, supporting the view that it stabilizes the oceanic inventory of fixed nitrogen over time.

Anthropogenic ocean acidification over the twenty-first century and its impact on calcifying organisms
Article Abstract:
Thirteen models of the ocean-carbon cycle are used to assess calcium carbonate saturation under the IS92a 'business-as-usual' scenario for future emissions of anthropogenic carbon dioxide. Findings indicate that conditions detrimental to high-latitude ecosystems could develop within decades, not centuries.
