Mechanisms of dispersed central-place foraging in polydomous colonies of the Argentine ant
Article Abstract:
Many ant species occupy multiple nests and polydomous colonies can be removed from certain constraints linked to classic central-place foraging. The mechanisms involved in dispersed central-place foraging in polydomous colonies of Linepithema humile, the Argentine ant, were examined. The importance of polydomy ad a competitive ability determinant is emphasized by its prevalence in ecologically dominant ants.

Role of propagule size in the success of incipient colonies of the invasive Argentine ant
Article Abstract:
Experimental colonies of the invasive Argentine ant that differed both in worker and queen number are used to test how these attributes influence the survivorship and growth of incipient colonies. The results suggest that queens need workers to establish successfully but that propagules with as few as 10 workers can grow quickly.

Effects of colony-level variation on competitive ability in the invasive Argentine ant
Article Abstract:
Research describing the influence on competitive ability of nest number and colony size of Argentine ants is presented. It is shown that measures of competitive performance increase with worker numbers.
