Migration patterns of black brant in Boundary Bay, British Columbia
Article Abstract:
Population censuses and sightings of individually marked birds were used to examine the migration patterns of brant in Boundary Bay, British Columbia, during 1994-95 and 1995-96. There were no turnover detected through the area in fall. The first spring transients appeared in mid-Feb 1995 and 1 week later in 1996. The first departures coincided with the opening of brant hunting in Boundary Bay in both years. This suggested that spring brant hunting could have adverse effects on reproductive success if migrants depart early from staging areas.

Sexual differences in the control of postnuptial moult in the pied flycatcher
Article Abstract:
The association between the timing of the breeding cycle and postnuptial molting in the pied flycatcher, Ficedula hypoleuca, is investigated by exchanging clutches with different laying dates. Results reveal a fixed timetable for molting and reproduction for female pied flycatchers. Molting is dependent on the original breeding cycle for females and on brood age for males. This indicates sexual differences in the control of resource allocation for breeding and growth among male and female pied flycatchers.

Moult speed predicts pairing success in male harlequin ducks
Article Abstract:
The influence of timing and speed of molting in male harlequin ducks, Histrionicus histrionicus, on mating success is investigated. The speed of molting is correlated to the probability of finding a mate while the timing of molting has no effect on pairing success. Further, the speed of molting was found to be correlated with the body condition of males with conditioned males having a faster molting time.
