Molecular evidence for genetic mixing of Arctic and Antarctic subpolar populations of planktonic foraminifers
Article Abstract:
Although it is well-known that certain species have a bipolar geographic distribution, it has never been demonstrated whether this is due to independent evolution or to transference of species across the tropics. New evidence from plankton research suggests that trans-tropical gene flow has occurred.

Artefacts in ocean data hide rising temperatures
Article Abstract:
The ARGO programme data has revealed a newly discovered bias in temperature profiles from expandable bathythermographs (XBTs). The effect of the bias in the ARGO data on the ocean temperature and salinity worldwide is discussed.

Vigorous exchange between the Indian and Atlantic oceans at the end of the past five glacial periods
Article Abstract:
The 'Agulhas leakage', which is the transfer of heat and salt between the Indian and Atlantic oceans, is important for global ocean circulation. These waters contain a characteristic assemblage of planktic foraminifera.
