Why some male Mongolian gerbils may help at the nest: testosterone, asexuality and alloparenting
Article Abstract:
Research describing the reproductive behaviour of the Mongolian gerbil, Meriones unguiculatus, is presented. Highly parental asexual males are found to be obligate helpers at the nest and to be incapable of direct reproduction.

Mongolian gerbil fathers avoid newborn male pups, but not newborn female pups: olfactory control of early paternal behaviour
Article Abstract:
The effects of the sex and number of pups in a litter on the parental behavior of male Mongolian gerbils, Meriones unguiculatus, are examined. The role of the pup age and the olfactory stimuli produced by pups in mediating responses of recent fathers to young are discussed.

Parenting and potency: alternative routes to reproductive success in male Mongolian gerbils
Article Abstract:
A study investigates the reproductive success of adult male Mongolian gerbils. The results show that male gerbils gestated in intrauterine positions between two male (2M) fetuses are more reproductively capable than gerbils gestated between two female (2F) fetuses. However, the 2F male gerbils may be more reproductively successful. Details of the study are presented.
