Monogyny and regulation of worker mating in queenless ant Dinoponera quadriceps
Article Abstract:
Queenless ant species generally have an alpha worker, called a gamergate, that successfully mate and produce practically all the eggs in the colony. Among Dinoponera quadriceps, there is only one gamergate per colony and the absence of an alpha female leads to aggressive interactions between workers leading to a behavioral differentiation of the dominant female. Mating of the alpha female with a foreign male makes her a gamergate. Studies conducted reveal that gamergates may mate only once and mating among less dominant workers is regulated.

Fertility signalling and reproductive skew in queenless ants
Article Abstract:
The mechanisms underlying reproductive skew in the monogynous queenless ant Streblognathus peetersi are investigated. The colony reproductive is determined as a result of aggression between high-ranking workers, but once an alpha is established, chemical signalling is enough to maintain reproductive skew.

Role of the queen in regulating reproduction in the bulldog ant Myrmecia gulosa: Control or signaling?
Article Abstract:
The behavioral interactions between queen and workers in the bulldog ant Myrmecia gulosa, a species with limited queen-worker dimorphism and small colonies are investigated. The results provide evidence against the notion that queen pheromones inhibit worker oviposition.
