Mystery remains as journal withdraws paper
Article Abstract:
Elin Oxenhielm published a paper which presented itself as a solution to the second part of Hilbert's sixteenth problem on 18 November in Nonlinear Analysis. The journal withdrew the paper after reviewing and accepting the work and publishing it online because it was said to be incomplete and contained serious mistakes.

Clean-up techniques developed over decades are applied to the oil-spill from the tanker Prestige off the coast of Spain. Bioremediation and minimally invasive cleaning techniques are being favored over chemical cleaning, high-pressure hot water washing, and use of heavy equipment to recover oil.
