NIH plan brings global electronic journal a step nearer reality
Article Abstract:
A formal proposals has been made to developed a global electronic publishing venture covering all biomedical sciences, by the director of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), Harold Varmus. The 'E-Biomed' proposal features input from Patrick Brown, a researcher at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Stanford University School of Medicine, and David Lipman, director of the US National Council for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). The aim is to centralize biomedical research publications in a single website.

Nuclear debate splits open in France...
Article Abstract:
France's nuclear waste disposal programme has been criticised for being biased towards geological storage. More than forty French politicians are concerned that long-term solutions are not being sufficiently considered in the fifteen-year programme. Alternative options include radioactive tranmutation and surface storage. Institute for Nuclear and Particle Physics head Claude Detraz is pleased that the programme's progress is under debate.
