A new study examines the theory by Trivers & Willard (1973) that the relative profitability of sons and daughters vary when ecological conditions differ. The study of house wrens, Troglodytes aedon, shows that female birds produce female offspring from last-laid eggs.

A test of the deceptive mimicry hypothesis in song-sharing song sparrows
Article Abstract:
A playback experiment is used to evaluate the success of a stranger male that mimics the song of a local song sparrow in order to infiltrate his territory. The response to the invader male was strongly aggressive as shown by charts that accompany the article.
