Nestling mouth colour: Ecological correlates of a begging signal
Article Abstract:
Begging nestlings from different species use similar displays when seeking food from their parents. Mouth colour is thought to act as a guide for parents. The mouth colours of nestlings from 31 species were studied and it was found that changes in mouth colour signalled need only amongst seed-regurgitating finches. No evidence was found to suggest that mouth colour was correlated with the light available in the nest.

Sibling competition affects individual growth strategies in marsh tit, Parus palustris, nestlings
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the influence which sibling competition has on the growth strategies of nestlings of the marsh tit, Parus palustris. The greatest influence was found in large broods where nestling size differences were large.

The optimal degree of parental care asymmetry among communal breeders
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the development of a two-patch type model which can be used to predict the attendance of secondary female birds at the nest site in order to provide additional parental care.
