Looking for the twilight zone
Article Abstract:
The need to understand how the Solar System was formed, and the possibility of other planets to possess environments required for sustenance of life has increased the search for other planetary systems. The probability of the existence of a planet in the 'habitable zone' in a solar-mass star is high, but stars with solar masses of 0.5 to 1.5 have small planets. However, the discovery of substellar-mass companions to stars is inconsistent with the basic concepts of the understanding of the formation of planetary system.

Looking out for memory T cells
Article Abstract:
Immunological memory relies on antigen-specific lymphocytes, or 'memory' T cells. Jacob and Baltimore claim to have found a way to identify those T cells that will survive and generate a stable memory pool. They used a genetic recombination system to tag activated T cells with human placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP). When the Cre combinase is activated it removes a stop codon from the transgenic construct, enabling PLAP to be expressed.
