Not so Great Attractor?
Article Abstract:
New measurements of galactic velocities and distances yielded impressive evidence against the existence of a Great Attractor that supposedly accounts for the galaxies' motion. However, this new research by D.S. Mathewson and colleagues, though impressive, has not resolved the prevailing confusion among astrophysicists about how to interpret the data on galactic motion. The difficulty, as determined by researcher Sandra Faber, lies in estimating galactic distances. Comprehensive galactic surveys are needed to clarify the matter.

Messing around with gravity
Article Abstract:
The Weizmann Institute's Mordehai Milgrom has suggested that Newton's inverse square law of gravitational attraction should be changed by incorporating the relative acceleration of the interacting masses in the definition of gravity. Milgrom argues that this revision of Newton's long-accepted theory is necessary to explain the measurements of galactic rotation curves without requiring the existence of cosmic dark matter. However, the lack of a relativistic component seriously undermines Milgrom's gravitational theory.
