Numerous candidate plasticity-related genes revealed by differential cDNA cloning
Article Abstract:
A highly sensitive differential complementary DNA cloning procedure was used to determine the genes that have the most significant impact on long-term plasticity of the nervous system. Fifty-two candidate DNAs of genes produced by the glutamate kainate in hippocampus dentate gyrus were cloned. Results showed that one of the cloned candidate plasticity genes (CPG) was induced through long-term potentiation while a second cloned DNA appeared to depend on the stimulation of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor. On the other hand, 17 of the CPGs encode common proteins.

Integrin-ligand binding properties govern cell migration speed through cell-substratum adhesiveness
Article Abstract:
The role of cell integrin expression and integrin-ligand binding affinity on the maximum speed of cell migration was analyzed based on a short-term adhesion assay. Analysis of the dynamic interaction between substratum ligand and cell receptors indicated the presence of optimum adhesiveness for cell migration. Furthermore, cell migration was modulated by ligand concentration, integrin expression and integrin affinity.
