Observation of Feshbach resonances in a Bose-Einstein condensate
Article Abstract:
It was thought that the scattering of ultracold atoms could be changed significantly via the Feshbach resonance. Two such resonances have been seen in optically trapped Bose-Einstein condensates of sodium atoms by alteration of the external magnetic field. They result in enhanced inelastic processes and a dispersive variation, providing new possibilities in the study of Bose-Einstein condensates.

Preparing topological states of a Bose-Einstein condensate
Article Abstract:
An approach to selectively generate superfluid vortex modes with different angular momenta in a Bose-Einstein condensate is demonstrated. It involves solving the time-dependent equation of motion of condensate with internal atomic states. The coupling between the states is combined with mechanical rotation of trapping potentials, confining the condensate.

Skyrmions in a ferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensate
Article Abstract:
Research into the stability of skyrmions in a fictitious spin-1/2 condensate of 87Rb atoms is presented. It was established that skyrmions can exist in a gas of this kind only as a metastable state. However, their lifetime is at least as long as the typical lifetime of the condensate itself.
