Out of the lab and into the marketplace
Article Abstract:
Scientists who decide to try to commercialize their work face many challenges. If they form a company, they must be strongly aware of business pressures, such as the need to meet investors' expectations, and must be able to communicate effectively. If they join a large company, they may find that progress in commercializing their work is frustratingly slow. The availability of financing for new companies is much more unpredictable than it is in academic research, and the flow of financing can be very hard to control.

Spectroscopic analysis
Article Abstract:
The new products in the market include data analysis software and atomic absorbance spectrometers besides others. Fisons Instruments isotopic analysis has added a remote diagnostic facility. The single-photon counting allows quantitative measurements in various fields of science. A new atomic absorption spectrophotometer with PC controls is available. Others include data analysis with Microsoft Windows, a software that allows display of data, disposable IR cards, UV-visible spectroscopy systems and new literature.

Diverse opportunities for immunologists
Article Abstract:
Immunologists can advance their careers by moving between laboratories in different countries. The Human Frontier Science Program is an important source of funding for scientists on the move. Some young immunologists may opt to work with prominent scientists or with government agencies. Graduate and postdoctoral students may also elect to take advance courses in immunobiology such as the one held by the Federation of European Biochemical Societies in Greece.
