Parent-offspring conflict and the genetics of offspring solicitation and parental response
Article Abstract:
A discussion of existing evidence for genetic variation in offspring solicitation behaviours and parental responses from a range of animal species is presented. This work is designed to encourage an approach to the investigation of parent-offspring conflict that covers both the phenotypic and the genotypic level.

Navigation in a cup: Chick positioning in great tit, Parus major, nests
Article Abstract:
The study tested the prediction of parent birds experimentally in the great tit by keeping nestlings temporarily in the laboratory where they were housed individually in nest boxes identical to their natural boxes. It concluded that nestlings are able to associate begging payoffs with specific locations in the netcup.

Begging signals and biparental care: nestling choice between parental feeding locations
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the ways and reasons why great tits, Parus major, differ in food allocation when responding to similar chick signals. Observations revealed that parents fed in different locations forcing chicks to compete for favorable positions. Female parents allocated more feeds than males to food-deprived siblings. Results suggested that parent birds may exert control over the information content of chick begging behavior.
