Parental division of labour and the shift from minimal to maximal role specializations: an examination using a biparental fish
Article Abstract:
Research describing parental sex role specialization in the presence or absence of a mate for the convict cichlid fish is presented. In particular the behavior of the fish in the presence or absence of an intruder is examined.

How does a parent respond when its mate emphasizes the wrong role? A test using a monogamous fish
Article Abstract:
The role performed by one parent that influences the role of selection and the behaviour of the other parent in the convict cichlid fish is examined. The suggestion details that the males in particular enforce the separation of sex-specific parental roles via the aggressive behaviour of females.

Is the selection of sex-typical parental roles based on an assessment process? A test in the monogamous convict cichlid fish
Article Abstract:
A large range of intruder sizes (40-85 mm) is used to examine whether small and large parents respond similarly to intruders that are smaller and larger than them. Findings suggest that the female cichlid fish has a more flexible parental role and when her relative abilities change she is more likely to expand her parental roles.
