Distinct functions of the two isoforms of dopamine D2 receptors
Article Abstract:
Research into the functions of the two isoforms of the signalling receptor dopamine D2 is presented. Results suggest that in vivo the D2S isoform is a D2 presynaptic autoreceptor, while D2L has a postsynaptic function.

Parkinsonian-like locomotor impairment in mice lacking dopamine D2 receptors
Article Abstract:
The dopamine D2 receptors significantly affect the neural transmission in the dopaminergic system through pathways arising from mesencephalic nuclei. D2-receptor-deficient mice developed by homologous recombination establish this physiological function. The D2-deficient mice phenotypically simulate the extrapyramidal signs associated with Parkinson's disease. Lack of D2 receptors initiate akinetic behavior with considerably diminished movements. The therapeutic importance of the new mice in analyzing and rectifying dopaminergic malfunctions are discussed.

Spermiogenesis deficiency and germ-cell apoptosis in CREM-mutant mice
Article Abstract:
Cyclic AMP-responsive element modulator (CREM)-mutant mice produced by homologous recombination were used to examine the role of CREM in spermiogenesis. Postmeiotic arrest at the initial stage of spermiogenesis was noted in the analysis of the seminiferous epithelium in mutant male mice. There were no late spermatids and there was a sharp increase in apoptotic germ cells. The lack of postmeiotic cell-specific gene expression is shown to stem from CREM deficiency.
