Patterning of the Caenorhabditis elegans head region by the Pax-6 family member vab-3
Article Abstract:
The animals belonging to vertebrate, insects and nematodes, in spite of the differences in the development of the head region, have the same type of gene that codes for the cells in the head region. Mutants in the vab-3 gene of the nematode, caenorhabditis elegans, exhibit defects in the development of the head region, indicating that the vab-3 gene is a part of the Pax-6 gene family. The Pax-6 genes are necessary for the development of the eye in vertebrates and drosophila also.

Caenorhabditis elegans early embryogenesis and vulval morphogenesis require chondroitin biosynthesis
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that the eighth of the total eight squashed vulva gene encodes a bifunctional glycosyltransferase which mediates the chondroitin biosynthesis essential for both cytokinesis and morphogenesis during development of Caenorhabditis elegans. Data reveal that mutations in these eight squashed vulva genes leads to defects in cytokinesis during embryogenesis and in vulval morphogenesis in C. elegans.

Chondroitin proteoglycans are involved in cell division of Caenorhabditis elegans
Article Abstract:
Inhibition of Caenorhabditis elegans chondroitin synthase homologue gene expression, which blocks chondroitin biosynthesis, leads to cytokinesis defects in early embryogenesis and cessation of cell division, and embryonic death, suggesting that chondroitin is essential for both embryonic cytokinesis and cell division.
