Perception of three-dimensional shape influences colour perception through mutual illumination
Article Abstract:
Surface colour perception is dependent on three-dimensional shape perception. It has been shown that this shape-colour dependence exists because the human visual system must intrinsically understand the effects of mutual illumination. There seems to be a top-down influence of surface recognition on colour perception, with this influence being controlled by an in-built knowledge of the chromatic effects of mutual illumination. This knowledge requires that the perception of surface colour and three-dimensional shape are closely connected.

Cortical area MT and the perception of stereoscopic depth
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that stereoscopic vision uses electrical imput from visual area MT neurones. Bias stimulation of disparity-selective MT nerves alters depth perception. Experiments designed to identify depth discrimination ability following disparity-selective MT nerve stimulation using rhesus monkeys are described. Horizontal disparity measurements are illustrated.

Force can overcome object geometry in the perception of shape through active touch
Article Abstract:
It has been demonstrated that force or force-related information can overcome geometrical information to influence shape perception through active touch. It is suggested that the nervous system could sense both force and kinesthetic cues for shape perception, but processes these cues separately and/or evaluates them differently.
