Petition calls for clampdown on absentee Chinese researchers
Article Abstract:
Chinese researchers have asked the government to more closely monitor scientists who receive research grants, since many expatriate researchers promise to return to China to work, receive grants, and then leave again to do their work abroad. Some 26 researchers at the Chineese Academy of Sciences, several universities and research institutes signed a letter to policy makers at the science and technology ministry and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

Young guns shoot to the top in China's research revolution
Article Abstract:
The new strategy of hiring young scientists has been adopted lately by some institutes and university departments in China as senior investigators are planning to retire in the nearest future. The rapid expansion of research, the lack of established middle-aged scientiests from the generations whose talent was squandered during the Cultural Revolution in 1966, and the trend among the young scientists to move overseas have triggered this process.
