Phosphorus limitation of nitrogen fixation by Trichodesmium in the central Atlantic Ocean
Article Abstract:
Research into marine fixation of atmospheric nitrogen by the cyanobacterium Trichodesmium is described. It seems that nitrogen fixation rates depend on the phosphorus content of Trichodesmium and not on iron content in Trichodesmium colonies or on dissolved iron levels in sea water.

The impact of surface-adsorbed phosphorus on phytoplankton Redfield stoichiometry
Article Abstract:
The Redfield ratio of 106 carbons: 16 nitrogen: 1 phosphorus in marine phytoplankton is one of the foundations of ocean biogeochemistry with application in algal physiology, palaeoclimatology. The study reports that Redfield ratio are strongly affected by partitioning into surface-adsorbed and intracellular phosphorus pools.

A marine nitrogen cycle fix?
Article Abstract:
Evidence indicates that biological nitrogen fixation, the primary process responsible for putting nitrogen compounds into sea, is intimately associated with marine nitrogen fixation. It is implied that the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus in seawater may be the central factor that regulates nitrogen fixation.
