Power laws governing epidemics in isolated populations
Article Abstract:
The size and duration of measles epidemics in isolated populations of the Faroe Islands; Reykjavik, Iceland; and Bornholm, Denmark, are represented by well defined scaling laws. The representation of the epidemics is similar to those of other nonlinear, spatially extended dynamic systems. A lattice-based model accurately represents the social relation between different hosts. The epidemics are generally of short duration but are related to the occurrence of long duration epidemics and are regulated by the b and c scaling exponents.

Cannabis laws 'threaten validity of trials'
Article Abstract:
Current regulations relating to cannabis could jeopardize clinical trials into its medical effects, according to British scientists. The government has rejected calls to allow doctors to prescribe cannabis, unless scientific research confirms the medical benefits. Reports that cannabis provides pain relief and helps to relive the symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS) are largely anecdotal, and separate trials aims to establish and quantify such benefits.

Laws of form revisited
Article Abstract:
Issues are presented concerning the application of physical laws relating to the structure of atoms and crystals, to the formation of folding in basic proteins. The finite nature of natural forms is discussed.
