Prediction of Emperor-Hawaii seamount locations from a revised model of global plate motion and mantle flow
Article Abstract:
An explanation of the geometry of the Hawaiian-Emperor seamount chain and other hot-spot tracks by combining global plate motions with intraplate deformation and movement of hotspot plumes through distortion by global mantle flow is provided. The computed hotspot motion is sufficient to remove any misfit between predicted and observed tracks after the time of the Hawaiian-Emperor bend.
