Prior residence has a gradual influence on dominance in captive white-throated sparrows
Article Abstract:
A study involving white-throated sparrows found that prior residence is an important factor in the level of dominace of captive birds, though the effect was not always apparent, and variations could have been linked to innate differences between birds. Sparrows in the wild are likely to be more dominant at the centre of their territory. The experiment could not replicate all the conditions of sparrows in the wild, but there appears to be a link between residence and domination, with domination allowing sparrows to take up residence, and vice versa.

Is there an ideal behaviour experiment?
Article Abstract:
A discussion of the design of behavioural experiments focused on the problem of pseudoreplication. The behavioral experiment should describe the reasons for rejecting the possibility of biological interactions between subjects, define the classes of stimuli compared and describe procedures for adequate sampling of the variation within each class of exemplars.
