Project to sequence human genome moves on the starting blocks
Article Abstract:
The funding agencies of the United States and Britain have approved an estimated $300 to $500 million project to sequence human genome. John Sulston, director of the Sugar Centre in Britain and Bob Waterston, director of the Genome Sequencing Center at Washington University, St. Louis have outlined the international effort to achieve this objective. The purpose of this project is to represent the genome as thoroughly as possible both at the clone and sequencing level and to structure the sequence by identifying the landmarks.

Altruism through beard chromodynamics
Article Abstract:
A green beard effect was modeled to determine if recognition and altruism are always inherited together. If the effect is caused by loosely coupled separate genes, altruism is facilitated through beard chromodynamics in which many beard colors co-occur and this allows altruism to persist even in weakly structured population, thus implying that the green beard effect, in the form of a fluid association of altruistic traits with a recognition tag could be much more prevalent than hitherto assumed.

Mariner transposons in humans
Article Abstract:
Two mariner transposons, DNA-based transposable elements, have been discovered in the human genome with similar features to the mariner elements in nematodes, arthropods and planaria. The transposons, humar1 and hum7, were identified through their short, conserved, inverted repeated domains though the mariner element responsible for the transformational vectors is still unknown.
