Proteins flex to function
Article Abstract:
Changes in intrinsic protein dynamics associated with ligand binding can modulate binding affinities, where some proteins increase their internal flexibility upon dissociation of a complex to weaken binding affinities, whereas other proteins retain (or create) structural dynamics upon complex formation, reducing the loss of entropy that is associated with molecules binding together. Characterizing their intrinsic motions is necessary to understand how they work.

DNA search and rescue
Article Abstract:
DNA-repair enzymes have the ability to search through vast tracts of DNA to find subtle anomalies in the structure. The human repair enzyme 8-oxoguanine glycosylase (hOGG1) is particularly impressive because it efficiently removes 8-oxoguanine, a damaged guanine (G) base containing an extra oxygen atom, and ignores undamaged bases.

Molecular cross-talk
Article Abstract:
Researchers have devised an artificial system that mimics chemical signaling between enzymes. The work on chemical signaling is a first step in the advanced development of artificial enzymes and it is expected to create a lot of cross-talk between chemists.
