Pure science in an age of attrition
Article Abstract:
Political issues for scientists engaged in research revolve around emphasizing the importance of their work to the government, to reduce the damage caused by diminishing resources. This requires a better understanding among the scientists, economists, and analysts of science and technology policy, and strong political skills for effective case presentation. It emphasizes the need for collaborative funding and cooperation. Scientists need to be a part of committees to recognize and aid similar struggling scientists.

1995: Science in search of 'strategies.'
Article Abstract:
Recession and political policies of several governments have helped develop new strategies for researches in science, which will retard progress in basic science research. Several countries are interested in applied research, which contributes directly to economic growth. Governments prefer to fund industry-oriented research rather than basic science research, which does not have industrial applications.

The year of utilitarian science?
Article Abstract:
The changes in political and economic conditions all over the world have affected the funding of scientific research. Applied sciences research is being given more importance than basic science research. This attitude is because much of the funding for research is now being provided by industries which require profit unlike previously when the finance was provided by the government.
