Quantum distribution of protons in solid molecular hydrogen at megabar pressures
Article Abstract:
It has proved possible to take account of proton quantum effects on the basis of ab initio path-integral formalism to demonstrate that the distributions of protons in the broken-symmetry phase appear totally different from those forecast by classical simulations. This research indicates that quantum fluctuations of protons effectively hamper molecular rotation, with a quantum localization arising. There are uncertainties in these predictions of the vibron frequencies, resulting from their sensitive dependence on the treatment of the exchange-correlation potentials.

The signature of hot hydrogen in the atmosphere of the extrasolar planet HD 209458b
Article Abstract:
The detection of adsorption by hot hydrogen in the atmosphere of the extrasolar planet HD 209458b is reported. The lower atmosphere and the full extended upper atmosphere of HD 209458b are observed and a layer is examined where the escaping gas forms in the atmosphere of HD 209458b.
