Life-history consequences of maternal condition in Alaskan moose
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to identify several effects of female condition on reproductive performance of Alaskan moose for a quite high-density population. Pregnancy, birth date, birth mass and twinning are all directly linked with the condition of the female.

Reproductive performance of female Alaskan caribou
Article Abstract:
The reproductive performance of female caribou in relation to age, physical condition and reproductive experience at the Denali National Park, AK, from 1987-1995 was investigated. Females first gave birth at 2-6 years old. Natality increased with body mass for 10-month old females weighed six months prior to the autumn breeding season. High losses of calves to predators in 1992 may have increased productivity in 1993. Losses of the young to predation prior to the breeding season can be a significant influence on subsequent productivity for ungulate populations.
