Recovery from spinal cord injury mediated by antibodies to neurite growth inhibitors
Article Abstract:
Treatment with IN-1 antibodies can neutralize myelin-associated neurite growth inhibitors and activate regeneration and anatomical plasticity of corticospinal and brain stem-spinal pathways, stimulating some recovery of locomotor function. Researchers experimented with rats with spinal cord lesions and found that elimination of the sensorimotor cortex in IN-1-treated rats inhibited the contact-placing responses. This indicates that recovery depends upon the regrowth of these pathways. Administration of IN-1 facilitates growth of corticospinal axons around the lesion site and caudal to the lesion.

Ligand-induced changes in integrin expression regulate neuronal adhesion and neurite outgrowth
Article Abstract:
Integrin family receptors are expressed by all cell types, and the control of integrin expression affects a broad range of processes, such as gene expression, and cell migration. It is shown that concentrations of substratum-bound ligand can regulate, post-translationally, the amount of receptor expressed. Surface amounts of receptor rise when ligand availability is low, although integrin RNA and total integrin protein fall.

Nogo-A is a myeline-associated neurite outgrowth inhibitor and an antigen for monoclonal antibody IN-1
Article Abstract:
The cloning of nogo A, rat complementary DNA, is reported. The nogo gene encodes at least three major protein products. Antibodies against Nogo-A stain central nervous system (CNS) myelin and oligodendrocytes, enabling dorsal root ganglion neurites to grow on CNS myelin. It inhibits neurite growth and may allow new reagents to be generated.
