Reduced source defence in an uncertain world: an experimental test using captive nutmeg mannikins
Article Abstract:
The effect of patch density on the use of aggressive behavior in nutmeg mannikins, Lonchura punctulata, when food patches were either visible (signalled patch location) or hidden (unsignalled patch location) to all forages was investigated. It was found that intensity of aggressive encounters were higher when patch location was signalled than when it was not signalled.

Incompatibility between antipredatory vigilance and scrounger tactic in nutmeg mannikins, Lonchura punctulata
Article Abstract:
The foraging-vigilance incompatibility is most often been documented in animals that are exploiting abundant food sources. The flocks of nutmeg mannikins, Lonchur punctulata, provided no evidence of compatibility between the scrounger tactic and antipredatory vigilance.

Prey crypticity reduces the proportion of group members searching for food
Article Abstract:
Foraging predators force preys to adopt cryptic coloration while searching for food. Nutmeg mannikins, Lonchura punctulata, are used to study the effect of the camouflaging activity of preys on their foraging behavior and group movement is discussed.
