Reeling CASK into the nucleus
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to identify a new signalling pathway in which CASK, a structural girder of cell junctions and a member of the membrane-associated guanylate kinase family, directly enters the nucleus and thus controls gene expression. This research involved screening for proteins that would bind to the guanylate kinase domain of CASK. It was found that the guanylate kinase domain associates with T-brain-1, a T-box transcription factor that usually resides in the nucleus. It is possible that protein phosphorylation may regulate translocation of CASK. It is also possible that translocation of CASK may be regulated by a relative balance of protein interactions.

Non-thermal heat-shock response to microwaves
Article Abstract:
It has been established that prolonged exposure to low-intensity microwave fields can spark off heat-shock responses in the soil nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. This effect seems to be non-thermal, indicating that the existing exposure limits set for microwave equipment may have to be revised.
