Reserve selection algorithms and the real world
Article Abstract:
The utility of reserve selection algorithms for those organizations and individuals charged with difficult, practical task of acquiring or extending strict reserves or other conservation areas are examined. Algorithms are not incompatible alternatives to pragmatic judgments, even though the contribution of planning theory can be overestimated in a filed driven largely by socioeconomic imperati s.

Reliability of elasticity analysis: Reply to mills et al.
Article Abstract:
The general statement made by Mills et al., that elasticities can give inaccurate predictions of lambda remains unfounded and it is argued that unequal variation is not a problem of elasticities. It is concluded that elasticities in spite of their limitations, when applied cautiously are a core and vital tool in conservation biology.

Animal-distribution modeling in gap analysis: An evolving science
Article Abstract:
The tacit assumptions about predictive power while modeling vertebrate distribution are evaluated. The Gap analysis program (GAP), whose objective is to describe quantitatively the amount of habitat for each species that falls under various stewardships, is critically analyzed.
