Resistance to herpes stromal keratitis conferred by an IgG2a-derived peptide
Article Abstract:
Research on mice demonstrates that exposure to an IgG2a-derived, allotype-bearing peptide can confer a resistance to herpes stromal keratitis (HSK), a virally induced autoimmune reaction. The peptide is recognized by T-cell clones specific for corneal self antigens which also mediate HSK. Therefore, self-tolerance and autoimmunity prevention may be maintained due to sequestered tissue proteins and circulating proteins sharing peptide subsequence expressions.
