Resources lacking to save Amazon biodiversity
Article Abstract:
The Convention on Biological Diversity was signed by representatives of 150 nations in 1992, but the Amazonian nations have made little progress in exercising their rights under the agreement. Amazonian countries are considering the use of biodiversity as a money making tool, which could lead to uncontrollable exploitation. There is also the opportunity to manage the biological resources to provide conservation incentives, along with technological transfer, training and education.

Amazon mercury emissions
Article Abstract:
The inputs of mercury from forest burning in the Amazon proposed to be nearly 90 tons per year by M.M. Veiga, J.A. Meech and N. Onate, are overestimated. The extremely high Hg concentration proposed for humus by the authors is also fraught with errors. Hence, deforestation is only partially accountable for the emission of Hg to the Amazon.
