Role of cholesterol and lipid organization in disease
Article Abstract:
The composition of lipid membranes influenced the organization and properties where disorders in lipid metabolism and transport have a role in human disease and significant progress enhanced the understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of lipid associated disorders. The cells and organisms developed extraordinarily sophisticated mechanisms for controlling the lipid composition and the control is based on regulating free cholestrol levels and the degree of saturation of fatty acids.

Polymer-supported membranes as models of the cell surface
Article Abstract:
A study shows that different classes of polymer-supported lipid membrane and the various methods for manipulating and patterning them are reviewed. The unique opportunities offered by these systems for studying the function of membrane-associated proteins and for practical applications such as protein purification and screening is outlined.

Bending over to attract
Article Abstract:
A state-of-art computer simulation of a model membrane is presented that is used to show its ability to bend spontaneously into a biologically relevant shape. This might lead to a new understanding of membrane shaping by proteins.
