Article Abstract:
The delayed visas and persistent security checks following the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 have driven away many of the foreign scientists from the US. The US government has taken some preventive measures like increasing staffing and installing new computer systems that allows applications to pass electronically between embassies and Washington agencies to encourage foreign scientists to return to the US.

US scraps plan to license foreign scientists
Article Abstract:
Scientists and students from countries of concern will not be required to obtain license before using certain pieces of laboratory equipment, as per the United States Department of Commerce's decision of withdrawal of a proposed rule change. The department is forming a 12-person committee, which hopes to include experts in academia, industry and security, to examine the issue of laboratory security.

Scientists urged to end feud with White House
Article Abstract:
Bill Clinton's former scientific adviser is trying to persuade leading researchers to use the tart of President George W. Bush's second term as an opportunity to patch up their differences with the White House. Scientist Neal Lane suggest that researchers should meet with the new members of the Bush's cabinet and try to re-engage with them on issues such as global warming.
