Segmental organization of embryonic diencephalon
Article Abstract:
A unique combination of genes maintained by polyclonal cell lineage restrictions specifies the segmental identities of diencephalic units. A stereotyped sequence of neuromeric subdivisions organizes the highly complex and intricate diencephalon. The same genes appear to pattern units in the head's anterior region, and set up positional cues and pathways for growth cones in the embryonic central nervous system, for both vertebrates and arthropods.

Initiation of neural induction by FGF signalling before gastrulation
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the development of the nervous system from ectodermal cells in vertebrate embryos following instruction from Hensen's node. The evidence showing that neural induction begins before gastrulation is discussed.

The amniote primitive streak is defined by epithelial cell intercalation before gastrulation
Article Abstract:
Studies reveal that the amniote primitive streak developed from the ancestral blastopore by acquisition of an additional medio-lateral intercalation event before gastrulation.
